Fund DetailSavannah Presbytery
M. K. Pentecost, Jr. Memorial Fund | 102240100608
For the presbytery’s ministry of environmental justice and the ecological stewardship of natural resources including marine life and wildlife. If possible, first preference is to be given to those ecological concerns which affect the Atlantic Coast of the states of Georgia and South Carolina. The Savannah Presbytery may, if it so desires, invite other presbyteries in the states of Georgia and South Carolina to work in concert with the Savanna Presbytery in order to promote the ecological stewardship of the environment. These funds are to be used for such purposes as promoting the support of conservation efforts, education and studies in key environmental issues of endangered ecosystems and the funding of ecological projects which are approved by the appropriate presbytery or presbyteries involved. Further, these funds are to be used for such efforts, purposes and projects as (but not limited to) promoting the protection of wetlands, controlling erosion or other destructive forces, restricting activities in construction which damage the environment, eliminating the useless destruction of marine life and/or wildlife, maintaining the beach areas for responsible relaxation and refreshment, and controlling water quality. In general, these funds are to be used for the restoration and preservation of the ecosystem in order that the Church’s ministry and response to ecological justice and the stewardship of natural resources can be maintained. The Savannah Presbytery may choose to withhold the spending of such funds for a period of not more than five (5) years in order to do more extensive and costlier endeavors in accord with this agreement. The Savannah Presbytery also has the right to make loans of such income funds paid to it by the Trustee to any presbytery or ecological cause even outside the states of Georgia and South Carolina in order to fund more extensive projects which are approved by a presbytery, or the presbyteries involved. Any such loan may bear interest but not more than the going prime rate in effect at the time such loan is made. The Salvation Presbytery, if it so desires, may expand its efforts in the ministry of environmental justice and ecological stewardship of natural resources by funding ecological projects of similar nature in any part of the United States of America. In the event that any income funds paid to the Savannah Presbytery are not expended or loaned within five (5) years of the date of receipt of such funds by the Savannah Presbytery, such funds shall be returned to the Trustee to be added to the existing principal of the permanent fund. The Savannah Presbytery, its successor, and any presbytery seeking to receive income from this endowment or participate in the decision-making process associated with the ministry enabled by this endowment, shall be eligible to receive income or participate in said ministry so long as the Presbytery ordains only heterosexual persons to the Ministry of Word and Sacrament, and permits to stand the ordination of only heterosexual persons to the office of deacon or elder when such ordination is authorized by a governing body which is under the jurisdiction of said presbytery. Trustee, in its sole discretion, shall choose another presbytery of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) which meets the requirement as to ordination set out above, and grant all the privileges and benefits of this endowment to such presbytery, in the event that Savannah Presbytery, or its successor, becomes ineligible to receive income from this endowment for failing to meet the requirements as to ordination set out above. A presbytery selected by Trustee shall remain the sole recipient of the income from this endowment as long as such presbytery meets the requirement as to ordination set out above and is deemed eligible by Trustee, and may expand the intended use of these funds to include the Church’s ministry of environmental justice, the stewardship of natural resources, and the protection of wild and domestic animal life without regard to giving first preference to the Atlantic coast of the states of Georgia and South Carolina. Should Trustee determine that all presbyteries of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) are ineligible for failing to meet the requirements for ordination set out above, then Trustee, in its sole discretion, shall choose another organization described in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code concerned with the same purposes and intent for which this endowment was established, and shall distribute all remaining principal and income to such organization.
