The purpose of the Moeller Family Endowment is to provide financial assistance in the form of academic scholarships to deserving and promising young men and women with demonstrated financial need who belong one of the two minority group identified below. The qualified recipients must be Stanly County, North Carolina residents to pay for college (or university) expenses directly related to a recipient's costs of education. A deserving recipient is intended to mean a candidate who plans to attend an accredited not for profit four-year college and who has demonstrated academic and leadership skills during high school. Consideration shall be given to those candidates who have held jobs or have performed significant duties for their family while in high school in lieu of participating in extracurricular school activities. Priority shall also be given to those candidates who have positively impacted their community through their involvement and service. The Moeller Family Endowment has been established specifically to select recipients who are of either African American or Hispanic ancestry and who associate themselves with either of these minorities or ethnic groups. Priority shall be given to those candidates who lack the financial means of paying for college (including not having a parent(s) or a direct family member(s) of financial means). Priority shall be given to those candidates who have attended Albemarle High School and then priority to those candidates who have attended another public high school in Stanly County that is served by school buses providing transportation and where attendance is not restricted by a lottery or similar system of student selection or admittance. Other Stanly County high schools include West Stanly High School, South Stanly High School and North Stanly High School. The order of selection priority is African American or Hispanic; lack of financial means (for example those who have received maximum FAFSA dollars); academic record; work, family commitments, and participation in athletics and community service; having significant financial responsibility; attendance at Albemarle High School; and finally, attendance at another high school in Stanly County. Expenses authorized to be paid by the Moeller Family Endowment include, but are not limited to, tuition, room and board, and related expenses such as required equipment and materials such as a computer, books and student supplies, as well as other educational expenses directly related to the costs of the recipient's education at their college. An example of an expense not to be authorized is an automobile even when it is to be used by the recipient to commute to their college. Scholarship funds will be paid directly to the college or university. The Scholarship committee of Session of First Presbyterian Church in Albemarle, NC will be authorized and empowered to exercise the appropriate discretion when identifying individuals who meet the specified criteria. Minimum scholarship amount is $1,000.00.
