Designated Use

Shall be used as its Session shall determine for the scholarship support of students or other persons affiliated with the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Decatur, Alabama according to the terms set forth in Appendix A of this agreement. Appendix A - A paraphrase of an excerpt of the Resolution of the Session of the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Decatur, Alabama passed at its meeting of August 21, 1984 on administering the expenditures of income received from the United Presbyterian Foundation from the Ernestine Ling Music Scholarship Endowment Fund of Westminster Presbyterian Church of Decatur, Alabama. 1. Each year, scholarship aid shall be made available to one or more high school graduates currently affiliated with the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Decatur, Alabama and who intend to major in music at an accredited college or university. If no student meeting these criteria applies for said scholarship aid in a given year, said aid may be made available to the Choir Director, Organist, a choir member, or other member of Westminster Presbyterian Church who wishes to pursue a course of music lessons or other musical training. 2. If no individual applies in a given year for scholarship aid for the purposes shown above, the income from this Fund shall be reinvested with the Presbyterian Foundation for a period of up to three years starting with the first quarter of the academic year in which no student or other individual has applied for scholarship aid. 3. After a period of three years, if no individual has applied, the income from this Fund which covers the first year of the three-year period of reinvestment aforementioned shall be paid to Maryville College Music Department, Maryville, Tennessee. This income is to be used by the College for scholarship support of a student who is pursuing studies in Sacred Music. 4. For each successive year, if no individual has applied for scholarship aid, the income from this fund shall be paid to Maryville College Music Department for scholarship aid as described above. The income from this fund then shall be paid to Maryville College on an annual basis until application for scholarship aid is made as outlined in paragraphs 1 and 2 above. 5. Should Maryville College be merged or consolidated with any other college related to the Presbyterian Church (USA), the net income from this gift shall be paid to the said merged college which shall be entitled to receive all the benefits of this gift and shall be obligated to administer the same in all respects and in accordance with the terms of this agreement. 6. Further, should Maryville College or its successors cease to exist or cease to be a part of or officially connected with the Presbyterian Church (USA), then the said net income shall be paid to the Synod of jurisdiction of the Presbyterian Church (USA), to be used by said Synod in accordance with the terms of this agreement for use as similar as possible to the original intent of the Donor.
