Designated Use

The Foundation shall distribute two hundred and fifty dollars ($250.00) annually beginning on June 30, 1997 to be used as follows. A Scholarship Committee, consisting of the Pastor of the Calvin Presbyterian Church and two congregational representatives will determine the recipients. The lay members of the Scholarship Committee will be approved by each Session and will serve indefinite terms. No committee person should participate in the voting if related to a specific candidate. Awards will be made annually if an eligible candidate applies and meets the stated criteria. The award will be in the amount of two hundred and fifty dollars ($250.00) until the Fund balance reaches ten thousand dollars ($10,000.00) for one year (achieved 7/1999). At this time the Scholarship Committee may increase the award to one (1) five hundred dollar ($500.00) scholarship or two (2) two hundred and fifty dollar ($250.00) scholarships. The Committee may continue to increase the total dollar amount awarded beyond five hundred dollars ($500.00) in increments of two hundred and fifty dollars ($250.00) for each additional five thousand dollars ($5000.00) of the fund principal. The check will be drawn jointly in favor of the recipient and the institution to which the recipient will attend. The scholarship may be awarded to either or both tuition or books at the agreement of the committee and the candidate. If there are no applications in a given year, the Scholarship Committee may choose to support some other medical need (Medical missions, purchase of needed equipment such as dialysis or x-ray machines, etc.) up to two hundred and fifty dollars ($250.00) in that given year. In order to be eligible for this scholarship, the candidate must be striving for a career in health services (i.e.: Pre-Medicine, Nursing, Various fields of Therapy, Technicians such as Lab, O.R. Specialists, Phlebotomy, etc.). One must have completed one full year of full-time studies in the health field and have maintained a 2.5 average (preferably better), based on a 4.0 system. Any applicant who falls below the 2.5 average requirement in a given year, must bring their grade point average up to a 2.5 in order to reapply for the Scholarship. Nontraditional students who work part-time and study part-time will also be considered. Applicants must apply annually and be an active member in one of the churches which host this scholarship. Applicants may not apply if receiving full tuition aid, and must inform the committee if this is a possibility. Applicant must complete and submit an application and two letters of recommendation, one of which is from an educational instructor familiar with the individual's work. Each applicant may be requested to meet individually with the Scholarship Committee.
