Designated Use

The Foundation shall accumulate the net income therefrom (hereinafter the Income), into a separate income accumulation account, until requested by Trinity Presbyterian Church, 2626 Gekeler Lane, Boise, Idaho 83706 for the Trinity Presbyterian Church Whitworth College Church Matching Scholarship to provide a scholarship for any undergraduate or graduate student attending Whitworth College, regardless of class (freshman-senior), sex, race or age from Trinity Presbyterian Church.Trinity Presbyterian Church shall consider students, Christian or non-Christian, attending Whitworth College in the following order: a) Students who are members of Trinity Presbyterian Church. b) Students who are active at Trinity Presbyterian Church, but are not members. c) Students who are not active at Trinity Presbyterian Church, but whose parents or guardians are members. d) Students who are not active at Trinity Presbyterian Church, but whose parents or guardians are active at Trinity Presbyterian Church but are not members. Active will be defined either by the Missions Committee and/or the Session. e) Students from any Presbyterian Church in Boise Presbytery who fit categories a,b,c,d above. If Boise Presbytery ever changes its boundaries or name, students from churches within such changed boundaries or name added would also be eligible. f) A son or daughter of a pastor of Trinity Presbyterian Church will be eligible for the scholarship and shall not be denied on the rationale that it is a conflict of interest for a pastor's son or daughter to be awarded the scholarship.Further, to qualify for this scholarship, there must be some active on-going relationship to Trinity Presbyterian Church, either by the student, parent or guardian or with a Boise Presbyterian Church. The scholarship is not to be awarded because at one time a family member or the individual was a member or active at Trinity Presbyterian or some Boise Presbyterian Church or some Presbyterian Church elsewhere.Should none of the above qualifications be met in any given year, Trinity Presbyterian Church has the right to use the Income for that year for students Whitworth College deems worthy. The intent is that the Income accrued will be used each year in some form as scholarship money.Further, while financial need may be taken into consideration, financial aid nor academic standing need not be the determining factor as to which student(s) shall receive a scholarship or for how much. For example, students whose parents have saved for their college education or students whose parents have an above average income should not be penalized. The Missions Committee elected by the congregation, or the Session or its representatives if there is no Missions Committee, will determine the basis and the amount of scholarship aid each year for each student applying. Equal amounts do not need to be granted to different students applying in the same year. Equal amounts do not need to be given to the same student applying in different years. The amount given to a student the previous year is not meant to set a precedent as to what will be given in any succeeding years to that same student. As the scholarship is awarded, it is to be remembered that at the time this scholarship fund was first invested, Whitworth College will match up to $500.00 per student per year. Trinity Presbyterian Church can award more than $500.00 to any one student in any given year.Further, should a scholarship recipient drop out of school, the scholarship from Trinity Presbyterian Church should be rescinded and the scholarship monies given by Trinity Presbyterian Church be returned to Trinity Presbyterian Church. This stipulation will not be enforced if the scholarship recipient dies or drops out of school because of serious medical reasons. Both Trinity Presbyterian Church and Whitworth College should agree to these stipulations.Further, if at any time in the future the Mission Committee members are appointed, not elected by the congregation, then elected representatives from Session or a committee of designated elders (not just members) will make the decision as to which student(s) will receive the scholarship for that year.Advertisement of the scholarship to all members and friends listed on the Trinity Presbyterian Church mailing list and maintenance of scholarship records and announcement of fund balances and scholarship winners shall be handled in accordance with Robert & Judithann Hill's memo dated July 21, 1997 to Trinity Presbyterian Church Session; Marian Hansen, Financial Aid Office, Whitworth College; and Judy Shideler, Presbyterian Foundation. Application for scholarship consideration should be received by the Trinity Presbyterian Church Session and/or Missions Committee by January 30 of each year. Notification of scholarship will be mailed in writing to all students by April 15th of that same year the applications are due.Any requests by Trinity Presbyterian Church for withdrawal of Income shall be in writing and such withdrawal shall be made according to the policies of the Foundation then in effect. Currently any written request for withdrawal must be received by the Foundation at least ten business days prior to the last day of any month to be effective for that month.Should the purpose of Whitworth College radically change so that its stated purpose is no longer a) to have students follow Christ and b) if more than 75% of the board of trustees are not confessing Christians active in their respective churches, Presbyterian or non-Presbyterian, and if there is no attempt to have more than 75% of the faculty serve as confessing Christians, then the Session of Trinity Presbyterian Church through the Missions Committee has the authority to switch this scholarship to another Presbyterian related college anywhere in the United States so long as the new Presbyterian-related college meets the above mentioned criteria. The intent is not to switch to another Presbyterian-related college unless all of the above mentioned criteria are not being met by Whitworth College.
