Susan Oshana Wright Memorial Scholarship Fund

Beneficiary location:

Louisville, KY

Account number: 203100052010

Designated Use

The Iran Mission of the Presbyterian Church (USA) (or succeeding body) shall be entrusted with the responsibility of selecting the young woman who is to receive the benefits of this memorial scholarship. In choosing the beneficiary the Iran Mission shall be governed by the following considerations: A. The scholarship is intended to help a deserving young woman to secure a Christian education in one of the Presbyterian mission schools in Iran. Preference shall always be given to a young woman of approved Christian character who lacks the means necessary to pursue a course of study in one of our mission schools.B. Since Susan Oshana Wright was herself a Nestorian, the beneficiary shall be, if at all possible, a young woman of Nestorian parentage and ancestry. If no Nestorian young woman stands in need of the financial assistance which the scholarships offers, a young woman belonging to some other nationality (always provided that she is Iranian in parentage and ancestry) shall be considered eligible to its benefits.C. If practicable, the beneficiary shall be chosen from north-western Iran (Azerbijan Province) where Susan Oshana Wright passed her life, and where her husband, the Rev. John V. Wright, labored for thirty-two years as a missionary of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A.Since conditions may sometimes arise which necessitate the closing of Mission Schools in Iran, it seems desirable to make the benefits of this scholarship available to young women outside of Iran. We therefore designate this scholarship as: The Susan Oshana Wright Memorial Scholarship for the Education of Girls in Moslem Lands, and as long as may be practicable, in Iran.
